Our dream is that every person facing housing instability is able to experience
the dignity, freedom, and peace of mind made possible with a safe, comfortable, and secure place to call home, especially our American heroes.
Veterans face unique housing challenges. This is particularly true of disabled and older vets. 24% of households headed by veterans 55 and older live with housing burdens, paying too much for rent, or living in inadequate or unsafe conditions.
Habitat seeks to change that by bringing the community together to build safe, affordable housing for a Veteran to call their own.
603 E. 7th Street in Cheyenne's historic Southside neighborhood has seen better days. In its current condition, the tiny home has become an eyesore among the charming craftsman style homes and nearby churches. Because its abandoned, people have taken to dumping their garbage there and the weeds are taking over the place.
But where some see blight, Habitat sees an opportunity to change the life of a local veteran. Our very first Veterans Build project will remove the existing home, tame the overgrowth of weeds and brush, and build a home that better matches the neighborhood's charming qualities.
And the best part is a local veteran will have the opportunity to be a homeowner. Because every veteran deserves a safe and affordable place to call home.
Corey Lynn Loghry and Shon Dermody of LYNN BUYS HOUSES support Habitat in many ways. Both were eager to help with a project that would benefit a local Veteran. They facilitated the purchase of the lot at a steep discount to Habitat.
The Cheyenne business community always comes together to support our Veterans. Support from business partners keeps our homes affordable.
When we asked each of the eight local credit unions if they'd come together to support a homeownership opportunity for a local veteran, they jumped at the chance! Their sponsorships covered the entire cost to purchase the lot on which we'll build.
