What do you mean "partnering" with Habitat?

Sweat Equity
Sweat Equity is an opportunity for your family, neighbors, friends, and co-workers, to work together to build your home.  Working alongside volunteers and future neighbors to build your home and community is one of the unique and rewarding aspects of Habitat for Humanity.

Every family is required to perform a minimum of 500 hours of volunteer "sweat equity" within the Habitat organization before moving into their home.

Who can contribute "sweat equity" hours?
All family members over 14 years of age many contribute some type of sweat equity.  Extended family and friends may also contribute to the required amount of sweat equity.

How do I earn sweat equity hours?
Construction on your own home and other Habitat houses being built by HFHLC.
You man also do work in the Habitat office or ReStore.

What is the purpose of sweat equity?
a. Partnership – Sweat equity provides meaningful interaction between partner families, affiliate representatives and habitat volunteers
b. Pride in homeownership – Investing sweat-equity hours in their own homes helps families in the construction phase begin the transition to ownership.
c. Development of skills and knowledge – On the building site, partner family members should gain a real understanding of the construction of their home and of maintenance issues they will face after occupancy.
Do I need a mortgage on a Habitat home?
Yes.  All Habitat for Humanity homes are purchased with a loan from Habitat for Humanity of Laramie County, Inc.  The mortgage length is 20 years with 0% interest.  House payment currently average around $550 a month, including principal payment, taxes, and interest.

How do I get an application for homeownership?
